Migraine

Migraine is more than headache. It's a complex interplay of factors, hormones, sleep, stress, nutrition, that releases in an attack. Acupuncture can help restore the balance from which migraines arise.

Migraine from a TCM perspective

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, migraine is often seen as a pattern of rising liver-yang or a blockage in the meridians running through the head. By recognising and treating these patterns, we can reduce frequency and intensity of attacks.

Scientific evidence

International studies (including a major Cochrane review) show that acupuncture is effective in the prevention of migraine, comparable to or better than prophylactic medication, but without side effects.

Treatment course

A typical course consists of 6 to 10 sessions, spread over 2–3 months. Many people notice after just a few sessions that attacks come less often or last shorter. We also discuss lifestyle factors that may play a role, sleep rhythm, nutrition and stress.
